Mats Persson – pianist, clavichordist, composer
Born on the 1st of September 1943.
Studies at the Royal College of Music, Stockholm and 1969-72 piano studies at Musikhochschule Köln with Prof. Aloys Kontarsky.
Has since 1972 performed in many European countries, USA and Canada as a soloist and in different ensembles with principally contemporary music. His contribution to composers off the beaten track must be mentioned, composers like J.M. Hauer, Gösta Oswald and Claude Loyola Allgén, as well as the CD-production of the complete keyboardworks by CJL Almqvist.
In 1972 he established with Kristine Scholz a piano duo, with focus on modern classics and contemporary music. Many composers have composed directly for the duo.
Since 2012 Mats Persson also perform as a clavichordist with contemporary works and music from the 17th and 18th century.
As a composer he is on one hand a ”composer/performer” whose music sometimes dwells between improvisation and composition. On the other hand he has composed many works for piano as well as for different chamber ensembles.
Furthermore he has collaborated with choreographers and he has written music for the theatre.
